Beef Shami Kababs Recipe
Beef Shami Kababs Recipe is a popular and delicious Pakistani dish made with ground beef, lentils, and aromatic spices. Here’s a simple and flavorful recipe to make these tasty kababs:
Ingredients:
- 500g ground beef (or beef mince)
- 1/2 cup split yellow lentils (chana dal)
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 4-5 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1- inch piece of ginger (minced)
- 2 green chilies (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon gram masala powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1 tablespoon oil (for cooking)
- Fresh coriander leaves (finely chopped for garnishing)
- 1 egg (optional, for binding)
- Water (as needed)
Instructions:
Cook the Beef and Lentils:
In a large pot, add the ground beef, yellow lentils, garlic, ginger, chopped onion, green chilies, and all the spices (garam masala, cumin, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt).
Add enough water to cover the ingredients and bring it to a boil.
Reduce the heat and cook, uncovered, for 40-50 minutes or until the beef and lentils are tender and the water is mostly absorbed. You may need to add extra water to prevent burning, so keep an eye on it.
Mash the Mixture:
Once the beef and lentils are cooked, use a wooden spoon or potato masher to mash the mixture. The consistency should be like a thick paste, but not too dry. Let it cool down.
Shape the Kababs:
Once the mixture has cooled enough to handle, shape it into small round or oval patties (about 8-10 pieces, depending on size).
Fry the Kababs:
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
If you want, dip each kabab into a beaten egg for a crispy coating, then fry until golden brown on both sides.
If you prefer a healthier version, you can shallow fry or bake the kababs.
Serve:
Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with naan, paratha, or rice.
Enjoy your homemade Beef Shami Kababs with a tangy chutney or yogurt dip for an added flavor!
